Dr. Don Sin joined Drs. Hwa Mu Lee and Nathan D. Wong of University of California, Irvine, to investigate the relationship between COPD Severity and Global Cardiovascular Risk in U.S. Adults. They set out to determine the impact of global cardiovascular events (CVE) risk assessment on total mortality in subjects with COPD, and concluded that by adding CVE risk scores to lung function data significantly improves risk-stratification of COPD patients for CVE and total mortality and thus adds to predicting long term survival of COPD patients.
